Ag PhD has developed two new apps for crop producers, which are now available on Apple® iOS and Google Android™ smartphone and tablet devices. What are some of the apps you use for your farming operation, and what do you like most about them? Let us know!
The Planting Population Calculator lets users determine their planting population for both corn and soybeans by inputting the number of seeds per acre and row width, in inches. This app is available on Apple devices as well as Android devices.
The Harvest Loss Calculator, which also is available for both Apple and Android devices, helps users estimate yield loss before, during and after harvest. Users select the crop and input the number of seeds/kernels counted on the ground in a square foot. It also allows users to enter current crop prices to determine exactly how much money is lying on the ground as harvest loss on a per-acre basis.
“Our Harvest Loss and Planting Population calculator apps provide concise and valuable information to help farmers make decisions to increase their overall return on investment,” says Brian Hefty, co-host of Ag PhD TV. “I’m using both of these apps on my farm, and we feel other farmers will benefit from them, too.”
The two apps, sponsored by Case IH, are convenient and easy to use. When the calculations are completed, the information can be saved and emailed to the user and others. “Farmers are more mobile than ever, so it’s important for them to access information on-the-go. We feel these apps will help them do just that,” says Hefty.
