FFA New Century Farmer Conference Educates the Next Generation

The FFA New Century Farmer program recently brought production agriculture’s future to Des Moines, Iowa, for a week of extensive training and industry visits, teaching the new generation skills to apply on their farms.

Case IH is a proud sponsor of FFA and the New Century Farmer program. Around 100 students headed to the Case IH Ag Information Center in Nevada, Iowa, for some hands-on learning.

While at the Ag Information Center, students learned about Case IH products and initiatives, including tillage, agronomic design and precision farming; toured local Vetter’s Equipment dealership; and even engaged in some friendly competition with pedal tractor races.

Participant Craig Teten farms with his family in Johnson, Neb. He enjoyed learning about what Case IH has to offer.

“We run some Case IH equipment, so learning about Agronomic Design and Case IH products will help me make purchasing decisions down the road,” says Teten.

FFA also offers an alumni class for students who have already attended a New Century Farmer conference, but who come back to reconnect with classmates and refresh their knowledge.

Ryan Britten from Haswell, Colo., attended his first New Century Farmer conference in 2004 and enjoyed having the opportunity to attend again.

“Things have changed since the last time I attended,” says Britten. “I’ve learned something new every year. As long as people are looking for ways to better their operation, they will come out ahead.”
