Remember the Case IH blog post back in April that featured the TIME magazine blog article, “Is the world ready for seven billion people?”
The seven billionth person will likely be born in 2011. And, most experts believe that in about 40 years the world population will grow to nine billion people!
Ready or not, here they come, and to our farmers out there, we need your help to feed them.

As you’re wrapping up spring planting, we understand your first priority is getting your equipment to the field and getting it done.
Still, we expect that concern lingers in the back of your mind about rising fuel costs as you spend endless hours in the field. “Will our harvest cover these rising input costs? Will prices stay strong?”
With average U.S. diesel costs around $4 per gallon, (reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, May 30, 2011, it’s a hard issue to avoid.
While Case IH can’t do anything to lower fuel costs, we can offer you some guidance to optimize fuel efficiency as you operate your tractor. That’s why I asked John Bohnker, Case IH Marketing Manager for Magnum tractors, to provide helpful tips.

Succession planning is an important part of a successful transition from father to son, father to daughter, or maybe to another family member or partner. Whatever your succession plan looks like, getting to that point can be difficult, and the conversations leading up to a plan can be uncomfortable.

When producers talk, Case IH listens. When producers have questions, Case IH has an extensive team based in the field that works hard to find the answers. Case IH recently introduced “From the Field,” a bi-weekly video Q&A on The Weather Channel to help shed light on key issues impacting farming practices.
Although it’s technically not even summer yet, producers have already seen quite a variety of weather that is impacting their ability to get into the fields.

Case IH wishes to congratulate the 50 young men and women selected to participate in the National FFA’s 2011 New Century Farmer Program, an exclusive and highly competitive program to prepare young people for careers in production agriculture. The National FFA Organization announced the 2011 winners last week.
The late 2011 planting season, caused by the wet weather, has many North American crop producers working through less than ideal conditions in order to get crops planted within acceptable windows. Maintaining your planter for a normal planting season is one thing, but preparing your planter for muddy field conditions is another.
Chris Lursen, Case IH Crop Production Specialist for Early Riser planters offers several tips to help you increase your productivity and avoid getting stuck during this unusually muddy planting season.
As if a late start to planting your crops wasn’t enough of a challenge for you, the delay also gives weeds ample opportunity to take root and choke out planted seedlings, making weed management an even more crucial task this summer.
Brian Hefty, a farmer and co-host of RFD-TV’s AgPhD, provided insights on weed resistance, weed tolerance, and weed management practices during his presentation, “Weed Resistance – Will You Be Ready?” as part of Case IH’s Be Ready Discussion at the 2011 Ag Connect Expo. (more…)
Dr. Rob Zemenchik, Case IH Sales and Marketing Manager for Tillage Products, and the Case IH Crop Production team have been using the iPads with customers since September 2010. Zemenchik says that farmers are responding positively to the iPads. “Farmers reach for it,” he says. “They want to take it and look at it themselves. Because we can access the information right on the spot, our conversations can be tailored to customers’ specific interests and are much more efficient and productive, leaving producers more time in the field.”
For our final article in the Case IH Customer Driven Product Development (CDPD) series, I’ve invited Rob Zemenchik, Case IH marketing manager for tillage products, to be our guest blogger. We’ve already discussed how the CDPD process has guided many new Case IH planting and seeding equipment product developments, and Rob tells us how the CDPD process influenced the evolution of Case IH tillage equipment, as well.
Farmers often say that they do their best thinking about farming when they’re actually farming, which is why Case IH developed the Customer Driven Product Development (CDPD) process around the one-on-one, on-farm interview. During the interview, we let the farmers guide the conversation so they can express their thoughts and opinions, and we can identify unmet needs.
