We know you’re thinking about the upcoming growing season, so we’ve asked agronomists from different regions of the U.S. and Canada to provide their insights on what you should be looking for in 2012 to help you Be Ready for the future.
We begin with Brian Hefty of Ag PhD. Brian grew up on a farm and graduated from South Dakota State University. After working for an ag chemical company, he returned to join his father in the family seed and ag chemical business, Hefty Seed, which has since grown from one store to 33 stores in eight states. His brother, Darren, also joined the business, and in 1998, Brian and Darren started a television show called Ag PhD. They’ve produced a brand-new, half-hour show every week for the past 14 years. Case IH helped bring the story of production agriculture to more than 2.5 million consumers as part of Farm Journal Media’s Farmers Feeding the World exhibit at Taste of Chicago, June 24 through July 3.
The exhibit featured a Case IH Steiger® Quadtrac® 600 tractor, the world’s highest horsepower production tractor, along with a large screen TV playing video of how farmers use Case IH tractors and equipment in the field. The purpose of the display was to show consumers how Case IH is helping farmers grow safe and healthy food for an ever-increasing population.
The late 2011 planting season, caused by the wet weather, has many North American crop producers working through less than ideal conditions in order to get crops planted within acceptable windows. Maintaining your planter for a normal planting season is one thing, but preparing your planter for muddy field conditions is another.

Dr. Rob Zemenchik, Case IH Sales and Marketing Manager for Tillage Products, and the Case IH Crop Production team have been using the iPads with customers since September 2010. Zemenchik says that farmers are responding positively to the iPads. “Farmers reach for it,” he says. “They want to take it and look at it themselves. Because we can access the information right on the spot, our conversations can be tailored to customers’ specific interests and are much more efficient and productive, leaving producers more time in the field.”
Over the last few weeks, I’ve invited Case IH experts, Bill Preller and Alan Forbes, to explain the five steps of Case IH’s Customer Driven Product Development (CDPD) process and how it influenced the development of the new Case IH Early Riser® planter toolbars.
This week, we continue to explore the Case IH Customer Driven Product Development process—this time with the help of Dale Simpson, Case IH marketing manager for seeding, who will walk us through how the CDPD process influenced the development of crucial seeding components to help farmers work within those tight seeding windows.
