Congratulations, Elisa Sagehorn! Winner of the Case IH #BeReady Twitter Contest!

Congratulations, Elisa Sagehorn! Winner of the Case IH #BeReady Twitter Contest!

Case IH is a proud supporter of the National FFA Foundation. Their undertaking of helping students prepare to be the next generation of agriculture leaders goes hand-in-hand with our mission to help farmers “Be Ready” for the opportunities and challenges facing agriculture.

During the recent National FFA Convention, we asked students to use Twitter to send us their thoughts on what they are doing to Be Ready for the future of farming. We promised that one respondent would receive a new Apple iPad 2 as part of the contest.

Our lucky winner is Elisa Sagehorn who grew up on a row crop and cattle farm near Holyoke, Colo. She currently is student at Colorado State University (CSU) majoring in agricultural education. She is the daughter of Keith and Diane Sagehorn.

Elisa tweeted “I will be ready through bringing ag education to elementary schools.” She already has served in agriculture advocacy roles, including presiding as a past state FFA officer, interning for the Colorado Farm Bureau and currently chairing the CSU College of Agriculture ambassador program.

Another Way Efficient Power is a Win/Win Proposition

Categories: Efficient Power

If you were in Decatur for the Farm Progress Show, you probably noted the Case IH presence. We admit it – Case IH was hard to miss.  But if you weren’t able to join us we invite you to take a look at the video recap of opening day.

Follow Us on TwitterWe also hope nobody missed a chance to tweet their response to the question, “What does Efficient Power mean to me?” Here’s how it worked: Everyone was invited to describe what Efficient Power meant to them personally. There weren’t many rules- you had to include a #EfficientPower hashtag to identify your tweet, and of course you had to observe the Twitter 140-character limit. Other than that, the topic was wide open.

As if a late start to planting your crops wasn’t enough of a challenge for you, the delay also gives weeds ample opportunity to take root and choke out planted seedlings, making weed management an even more crucial task this summer.

Brian Hefty, a farmer and co-host of RFD-TV’s AgPhD, provided insights on weed resistance, weed tolerance, and weed management practices during his presentation, “Weed Resistance – Will You Be Ready?” as part of Case IH’s Be Ready Discussion at the 2011 Ag Connect Expo.  (more…)

Dorr is CEO of the U.S. Grains Council, an organization that develops export markets for U.S. corn, barley, and sorghum. In his remarks, he addressed trade relations with China, including the current anti-dumping claim that China filed against U.S. dried distillers grain producers. “The Chinese have to be willing to sit down with us and send solid signals that give us the assurance that we can invest in the infrastructure to provide what they need,” said Dorr.

Case IH is committed to helping farmers “Be Ready” and embrace the challenges and opportunities of agriculture. We also recognize that there are new generations of farmers entering the industry every day, and we want to encourage their involvement and leadership within the industry.

One way Case IH is demonstrating our commitment to preparing young people for careers in production agriculture is by sponsoring the National FFA’s New Century Farmer Conference. This conference is an intensive, five-day event held in Des Moines, Iowa, where youths’ entrepreneurial spirit and professional growth is nurtured. Participants have the opportunity to network with industry experts, including some of our Case IH team, while increasing their practical knowledge, global perspective, and personal growth.

Dan Basse, together with Tom Dorr, headlined the BE READY Discussion on Global Markets in the Case IH booth at Ag Connect Expo. Basse is President of AgResource Company, a domestic and international agricultural research firm that forecasts domestic and world agricultural price trends. In his remarks, he expressed the need for farmers to understand how political concerns and food safety issues, both in the U.S. and abroad, influence trade relationships, in order to make sound marketing decisions and control how agricultural commodities compete in the global marketplace. “All of a sudden you all have to be embroiled in this world market and understand relationships of grain prices, not only at your local elevator, but what they’re trading in Dalian, Australia, Europe, and Russia,” Basse explained. “These are all big factors that will drive your profitability.”
