Today’s cell phones double as a farmer’s personal secretary, weather center and crop manager. You may already be aware of the convenience of receiving email and accessing the internet through your phone, but with the development of Smart Phone applications, the sky is the limit for what you can achieve from your tractor seat!
We’ve heard a lot about some resourceful Smart Phone applications that we wanted to share with you. Take a look at what we found and let us know if you use any of these applications or if you have discovered other useful “apps.”
In February, Case IH posted a video blog featuring Dan Basse, president of AgResource Company and headliner of Case IH’s Be Ready Discussion on Global Markets at Ag Connect Expo. The seven billionth person will likely be born in 2011. And, most experts believe that in about 40 years the world population will grow to nine billion people!

Over the years, we have talked to a lot of dads about running the family farm and working alongside their sons and daughters. We’ve also heard a lot of stories – some good and some not so good – about the challenges of successfully passing the torch from one generation to the next.
Succession planning is an important part of a successful transition from father to son, father to daughter, or maybe to another family member or partner. Whatever your succession plan looks like, getting to that point can be difficult, and the conversations leading up to a plan can be uncomfortable.
Case IH wishes to congratulate the 50 young men and women selected to participate in the National FFA’s 2011 New Century Farmer Program, an exclusive and highly competitive program to prepare young people for careers in production agriculture. The National FFA Organization announced the 2011 winners last week.
The late 2011 planting season, caused by the wet weather, has many North American crop producers working through less than ideal conditions in order to get crops planted within acceptable windows. As you’re gearing up to get in the fields this spring, I want to share a TIME magazine blog post in which author, Bryan Walsh, poses the question: “Is the world ready for seven billion people?
In his blog, Walsh comments that sometime this year the world’s seventh billionth person will be born. To put that in perspective, it took the world 50 years to grow from three billion people to seven billion people. If you think that’s fast, think about this: the sixth billionth person born is just 11 years old!

As a panelist for the Case IH Be Ready VIP Discussion at Ag Connect Expo, Jim Nussle, former U.S. House of Representatives, contributed his insights on a range of topics influencing farmers’ decision-making, including public policy, global market influences, and the future of ethanol. In his comments, Nussle emphasized the importance of farmers connecting with policy makers to explain how long-term policies will impact agriculture operations and their bottom lines: “Engagement in the process is probably the most important factor that producers can take advantage of now more than ever before.”
