Today we have Kelsie Young blogging about her experiences as the Case IH online marketing support intern this summer. A Missouri State University graduate in ag communications, Kelsie is headed to graduate school this fall. Also this fall, Case IH will begin recruiting for the 2013 class of interns.
As a senior agricultural communications major hearing the phrase, “We would like to extend an offer for the online marketing support internship,” was one of the highlights of my final fall semester at Missouri State University last October. Fast forward a few months and here I am at the end of my summer internship.
I have spent roughly three months working for Case IH in Racine, Wis. To work for an esteemed and established agricultural company, and Case IH in particular, has been nothing short of an amazing learning and growing experience.
Throughout the summer I have had the opportunity to work with a new and upcoming project that will enhance the sales experience. This project has allowed me to work closely with Case IH vendors and marketing directors and to build those relationships into a larger network of professional contacts.
I’ve gained experience and become more familiar with HTML, website design and layout and Photoshop. Being in a professional environment and working day in and day out with corporate employees enabled me to learn more about all Case IH equipment and products as well as Case IH as an organization.
Outside the office there are many opportunities to meet and get to know your peers in the company; your fellow interns. With company volunteer opportunities, intern outings to a local Brewers game and tailgate, plant tours, the Racine County fair and much more, we’ve gotten to know one another. This also gives us an opportunity to talk about the different positions and areas of the company that we might not be exposed to.
For the most part we are even housed relatively close to each other. This is one of my favorite aspects of the internship: Case IH places you in housing to help you get immersed in the internship experience. Since I am from Missouri and have not gotten to go visit home this summer, I have enjoyed the weekend cookouts and always having someone to hang out with in our free time. Case IH has made it a priority to help me feel at home.
With my experiences this summer I have been able to get a true sense of the brand and the company as a whole. I have no doubt this has been a growing and learning experience that will only enhance my abilities while I am obtaining my master’s degree and later on in the workforce.
