No matter where or what you farm, harvest concerns and challenges revolve around similar themes: weather, prices, yields and, of course, more weather. The far West and Pacific Northwest are no different.
Today’s guest blogger is Ron Blessing, Case IH High Horsepower Specialist. Ron covers eastern New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Eastern Washington. Here is his harvest report from the field:
Our fall harvest season is well underway, and yields look good. Rice harvest in California is moving along, but green crop conditions are slowing progress. We’ve also gotten off to a good start on corn in California, Idaho and Washington.
[Tweet “Report from the field has corn and rice harvest rolling along in the Western states. Via @Case_IH”]Weather. Cool daytime temperatures are slowing start up daily. Occasional rain showers slow it down even further.
Field conditions. Depending on where the occasional showers fall, our rice fields range anywhere from dry to wet.
Here to help. Our dealers and Case IH field staff are working hard to help with the harvest. One of my best pieces of harvest advice centers around maximizing efficiency and getting the greatest productivity from your Axial-Flow® combine: Use the suggested settings in the operators manual as a starting point, and then turn to the troubleshooting guide in the same chapter to fine-tune combine performance.
Regardless of field conditions or the pace of your harvest, the most important advice we all need to remember is to slow down, stay safe and have a great harvest.
